Race Name: Umanhii (pronounced: ee-ma-ni or y-ma-na-hee)
History:
Known as "humans" originally, the Umanhii became disgusted with their greedy, slothful, and disrespectful ways. They wanted their children to be raised in an environment that promoted healthy family living, paying great care to the environment and using more natural medical remedies. They also wanted to be freer to experiment with magic and have less restrictive government. These were also the people that seemed to be different, outsiders that didn't fit the societal norms of being "human" to begin with. They got their name "Umanhii" because they chose to split off from the rest of their kin and move to an isolated partof the Mainland to pursue a better life. They became known as "uncivilized" and "traitors" to their own people, sometimes to the point of being called "Barbarians". Uknown to anyone, that specific part of the Mainland had carried a curse of unknown origin that lay dormant. When a piece of the Mainland split off and became known as "The Island", the isolated piece of land that the Umanhii lived on, became part of the Island. This drastic shift awoke the curse that had silently festered in that part of the land and began to change the people living in it. Any outsider that stepped foot in that area never came out. It was rumored that these people fell prey to the "Barbarian" Umanhii, that these isolated peoples were cannibals. Others say that the outsiders fell prey to the curse itself. No one really knows the truth. Now, however the Umanhii have slowly begun to emerge from hiding -whether by choice or driven by hunger-and make themselves known to the rest of the inhabitants on that Island. It is unclear what alliances these creatures hold, whether they are good or evil. One thing is definitley clear, they are not creatures of the Alchemist and it is rumored that neither is the curse.
Culture:
They are part of different tribes but share a common language. Some know more English -the main language of the Island and presumably the former Mainland-than others, and some simply choose not to speak it, preferring the comfort of their own. Each Umanhii has a mark or a tattoo somewhere on their person that is specific to the tribe that they belong to. Both men and women hold positions of power within the societal structure but a lot of the times, the lines are matrilineal, so the women and female children hold more sway. Females are therefore valued more and placed under higher protection than the males. Regardless of the tribe they belong to, the Female Umanhii always have a better proficiency when it comes to the use of magic and the Males have a higher proficiency with weapons. The Umanhii are primarily hunters and gatherers so their weapons of choice are sharp spears, daggers, bows and arrows, and sometimes quarter staffs. When the Umanhii were still part of the rest of the humans, they would eat pretty much anything, but when they split off their tastes became slightly narrowed down. When the curse began to take effect, even more so. Their current diet is similar to that of the Elves: They will eat meat (medium rare) and mostly fruits (ligon berries, elderberries, cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, leeche, pomogranites), different kinds of nuts and either drink burgundy or any kind of red wine. Consuming anything else will make them ill even to the point of losing stamina. The Umanhii tend to travel in packs, but more recently they have been leaving the safety of their groups and testing the waters on their own.
Racial:
When the Umanhii first lived in harmony with their human kin, they had last names as well as common first names and spoke the local language. They had structured religions and did not belong to any tribes, but rather to one people. When they moved away their former kin began using the term "Unhuman" to refer to them. They adopted this into their new language and changed it to "Umanhii" which in their native tongue actually means " The Forsaken" or "The Hidden". Also, they dropped their former names entirely and adopted new ones that were closer to things of nature and myth rather than religion and structure. Also, the curse that began to take over that part of the Island that the Umanhii lived on had begun to transform parts of their appearance. The Umanhii used to look exactly like other humans-and some still do-but now can be seen with either unnatural colored eyes, streaks of color in their hair or even having sharp fangs. The Umanhii females have been known to grow their nails long, even sometimes to the point of looking like claws, and the males have been known to have various body piercings , more commonly either their left or right ear with the symbol of the tribe they belong to or sometimes a cross in mocking of the former societal structure they once belonged to. Other than that they can be any height, body structure, complexion, have any hair style and clothing. These things, again mostly depend on the tribe they belong to. A few ways to really be able to detect an Umanhii are: If an Umanhii shows anger or another such strong emotion, their eyes tend to glow (gold for females and red for males). Also, any Umanhii that is in later stages of the curse is most likely to be paler in complexion than others in their group, wear dark clothing, and have fully formed fangs.
Abilities:
The Umanhii have the same basic abilities as other humans, except that htey also get to pick one of two racial abilities:
[glow=red,2,300]Glamour:[/glow] They can enter a state once a day where they can bend a person to their will for the entirety of an hour. This state can only be broken by the castor and when the victim emerges they will not remember what had occurred. This does not work on monster creatures, guardians, or any other character that is an "Umanhii" or falls under the curse. It can work on an NPC so long as they are level 28 or below. The first time this ability is bought it costs 15XP. Since it is a (X)per day skill, you can use it as many times as you buy it. However, ever consecutive time afterward that this ability is purchased it costs 25XP. It lasts 1 hour.
Glamour can work as a "By my gaze" or "By my voice" and you can only use it on one person at a time or if you want to , stack it, so for example, if you have the ability to cast it twice a night, you can either do it for one hour on two different people or you can do it for two hours on one person. "By my gaze" means you must have your "gaze" locked on the victim of choice for at least 5 seconds for it to take effect. There is no specific incant you have to memorize. Be creative! Have fun with it! There's also no specific way a controlled person has to roleplay. You can be totally normal in personality if you want to, or act like a zombie. It depends on what you want to do. This spell does not cost any mana to cast, rather it takes away 3 from your stamina.
[glow=red,2,300]Turn:[/glow] Gives the player the ability to "bite" and in effect make another of their own kind. (The "biting" is roleplayed) The victim, becomes disoriented and passes out. They wake up with no recollection of the incident except that they may feel a headache, slight dizzyness, or just in general "strange". Turning someone does not go into effect right away. It takes 3 days (or 3 game events whichever comes first). Someone may be able to catch onto the change before that period is up and figure out what is going and they can administer a specially made potion that will change them back. Someone who is "turned" does not possess a racial ability, but they are able to "feed" and they can reach a higher level of proficiency with the element of Chrono than humans can. Also, because the turned are never fully Umanhii, they aren't weakened in strength during the day. This ability costs 10XP and can be used once during the day and once in the evening. It is only bought once. It costs 2 stamina to cast.
[glow=red,2,300]*Feed:[/glow] All Umanhii have this skill regardless of what racial ability they pick. This ability allows the player to gain back some of their health by draining iit off another player (yes, health can be taken from monsters, I guess in this case it would be similar to critical attack, but maybe touch cast with a spacket or ranged). The incant would be something like: " let it be done, let our minds be one. I drain you 1, I drain you 2, I drain you 3." The Umanhii would gain back 3 or 4 health while dtraining 4. This ability will only work on something living. I'm not sure if this ability should extend to someoen who is unconscious. Using the "Feed" ability will cost 5 mana.
* Note: The Umanhii , unlike Humans are allowed full mastery over the element of Chrono. Also, the Umanhii tend not to be seen during the day because they are weaker. They cannot feed and they take double damage from *Mithril Silver and Iron. They can still glamour or turn, but it takes double their stamina to cast. They also might be seen wearing shades, and can be tired or slower to react.* This part can be pulled off with good roleplay.
Personality and Demeanor:
The Umanhii have a severe dislike for their human kin. They feel that all humans are the same and unworthy of respect and that their ways are primative and destructive. They see themselves as a race of people that were scorned and left, but despite harsh conditions survived and blossomed like the beautiful flowers that grow in the desert or a single rose growing in a barren graveyard. They feel that this therefore makes them superior to the humans and despite their dislike, they are to be pitied and not hated. Umanhii are beautiful, but in a different way than Elves. Theirs is of a wilder more nocturnal nature. Where the Elves are light and Ethereal, the Umanhii are exotic and dark. Being that the Umanhii are attracted to anything that is aethetically pleasing and natural, they are likely to respect and appreciate the Elven people despite their differences in child upbringing and hierarchy. As far as gnomes and dwarves they are indifferent. Though they recognize their skills with weapons and magic, none-the-less they find them annoying. The Umanhii are kinder in regards to
halflings due to their respect for the earth and emphasis on family connections. At the same time, they tend to see the halflings as children in need of protection. They also see them as funny , curious and sometimes entertaining. There is a certain aesthetic to their oddity that they find pleasing. They however, do not much care for the halflings' way of greed. Most Umanhii share these views towards other races.
How other races view the Umanhii:
Humans - See them as traitors and as a major threat to their way of being. They try to stay as far away as possible from the Umanhii. They are also afraid of them and tend to carry talismans, silver jewerly and little bulbs of garlic wrapped in satchels whenever they sense one nearby. Some humans, however, those of a more priestly persuasion view the Umanhii as "Lost Souls" that have lost their way and need to be brought back to the light of God, so they make it their personal mission to seek them out and convert them back to the light. These, the Umanhii find more annoying and would not think twice before dispatching them.
Elves - The Elves, of course still see themselves as beautiful and superior to all the races, but they do however admit to the beauty of the Umanhii and are even affable and respectful toward their kind. They see the Umanhii as being on a higher level of intellect and than the other races as well as not offending to the senses. Also, if nothing else , they recognize their skill with a bow and arrow and acknowlege them as worthy warriors.
Halflings - Being generally peaceful and food loving, they do not openly dislike any race. The same goes for the Umanhii, though they don't really understand this business of their squabbling with the humans. They find it silly, however fun to watch. Also, though they are saddened by the lack fo variety in the Umanhii diet they can appreciate their variety in exotic fruit which could be great use in many tasty desserts and side dishes. Also, if certain combinations of nuts and fruit are prepared right, they could make for a very potent aphrodisiac.
Dwarves - Don't think much of the Umanhii and their weaponry. They believe themselves to be better at smithing and more civilized than these guys. They actually share a similar view of the Umanhii as the humans do. The Dwarves are also honorable and will not refuse to work on a team with an Umanhii in it if necessary. They also recognize that when it comes to bows and arrows and quarter staffs, the Umanhii do know their stuff. They like to make fun of them for being snobs, especially when it comes to them making funny faces at the mention of beer or anything other than wine.
Gnomes - Are genuinely curious in nature, which extends to the Umanhii especially, since to gnomes, despite the Umanhii having been on the Island before anyone, they consider them "new" to the land. They don't seem to notice that although the Umanhii are less hostile towards them than Elves, many Umanhii would rather make a tasty snack out of a gnome rather than listen to them talk for too long. The Female Umanhii can be more patient with the gnomes because of their respect for the gnomes' skill in magic.
Ok, well that's about it on my end. I really hope you guys can approve this. I 've worked really hard on toning it down and not making them uber powerful while at the same time fitting them in with the convention of the game and rather than calling them " vampires" I decided to give them another , more fitting name, and simply attributing vampire-like qualities to them. If there are any questions, clarifications, or any extra information that you need, please feel free to IM or E-mail me.
